BIO

Carey Parks Schwartz is an award-winning contemporary painter.  She has exhibited widely at venues across the country, including the Museum of Modern Art's Rental and Sales Gallery (San Francisco, CA) and Art of the Northeast.

Carey holds an M.A. in Painting from the M.F.A program at San Jose State University and dual B.A. degrees in Art and Zoology from the University of California at Santa Barbara.  She is a faculty member of the Silvermine School of Art, teaching acrylic painting and drawing classes to adults.  Carey was just recently previewed in American Artist Magazine - Workshop edition, which profiled her teaching process and her paintings.

A painter for over 25 years, Carey's work has evolved in response to an exploration of her changing surroundings.  The first body of work, inspired by her native California, was composed of abstract urban scenes.  Stirred by a move to Paris, Carey's cityscapes began to incorporate coastal themes through her time at the family's home on the island of Oleron, in southwest France.

Today, Carey's paintings distill the human experience by depicting figures in everyday scenes that tell a story we can all relate to.  Her work in progress portrays partial figures that fill and flow off the canvas, focusing on strong compositional design and movement, as well as bold contrasts and interesting shapes.
